OFF sur le toit #13 - Radio Radio

Ce OFF sur le toit avec Radio Radio et la pièce Tômtôm acapella a été réalisé pour célébrer le printemps, chez Vélomakak dans le quartier St-Henry à Montréal. Prenons le temps d'une anecdote. La mère de Jacques était allergique à une sorte de fleur. Au lieu de cesser de lui en offrir, son père prenait soin de lui choisir des bouquets artificiels. Un jour, après plusieurs années, elle lui demande: ''Pourquoi toujours des fleurs artificielles, je ne suis allergique qu'à une sorte de fleur, pas à toutes les fleurs!''.

For this OFF On The Roof, the first of the second season, we took Radio Radio up on the roof of Velomakak, a bike shop in Saint-Henry Montreal, to sing us the song Tômtôm. Our concept: flowers! Between two takes (the boombox kept skipping!), Jacques told us an anecdote about his mother, who had an allergic reaction to one type of flower one day, which inspired his father to only buy her plastic flowers from then on, much to her dispair!

#12 I.No - Mon Chéri

Perchés en plein coeur de Québec on a retrouvé la mort et un certain bouleversement avec I.No. Était-ce la beauté de la chanteuse? ''Je l'ai écrite pour une amie qui a perdu un être cher et chaque fois que je la chante je pense à elle'', explique Amélie No au sujet de cette chanson, Mon Chéri. En revenant du tournage, entre deux orages, il y avait un arc-en ciel sur la ville.

On a roof top in the middle of Québec city, I.No sang about death with much emotion. We were touched by the beauty of the song and of singer Amélie No. "I wrote this song for a friend that lost someone close to her and every time I sing it, I think of her" she told us about this song, called Mon Chéri. The shoot took place between two rain storms and on our way home, there was a rainbow over the city.

#11 L'abobinable Fanny Fay & l'Olibrius Folkestra

Incroyable mais vrai moussaillons: les cloches de l'église Saint-Jean-Baptiste ont retenti à la dernière note de cette chanson! Un taux record de spectateurs curieux pour ce Off sur le toit entre 2 orages sur la rue Deligny. Des mousses accrochés à la balustrade voisine, des clopes arrachées à l'accent même du Saguenay Lac-Saint-Jean. La houle quoi! Et ces saltimbanques qui jouaient sans répit...

Unbelievable but true sailors: the bells of the Saint-Jean-Baptiste church rang the moment this we finished shooting this song! We had more curious spectators than ever for this impromptu shoot, taking place between two shower sotorms on Deligny street, Québec city. The neighbour’s children, the passers bys, all felt the waves with us! And those acrobats that played endlessly…

#10 Who Are You - Qui t'aide

Il ventait!!! Trop pour les chapeaux. Virginie a prêté une bobby pin à Simon, le guitariste à la frange. On a invité notre bande d'amis à assister au tournage, puisque nous aimons tous Who Are You, Jasmine (le petit chien) et la gentille Elisabeth, qui avait pris congé pour nous prêter son toit de la rue Arago à Québec. Avec cette nouvelle pièce en français, le trio Who Are You donne un aperçu de son premier album.

It was windy! Too much for hats... and hair (Virginie had to lend a bobby pin to Simon, the  guitar player!). We had invited our friends to be on set, because we are all Who Are You fans. Also with us: Jasmine, the cutest doggy, and the lovely Elisabeth, who took the day off fromm work so we could shoot on her roof on Arago street, Québec city. With this new song in French, Who Are You, who usually sing in English, gave us a taste of things to come on their first album.

#9 Sunny Duval (bonus) - Fille pourquoi

Bonus video. La caméra tient sur 2 pattes qui dansent et des fesses qui se trémoussent. En arrière-plan: le dôme de la SAT en construction et l'édifice de Ghost Busters au loin. Montréal était brûlante ce jour-là sur le toit du Club Soda. Puis Sunny Duval, tout de go, nous a complètement émoustillées avec cette version spontanée de Fille Pourquoi. Comme s'il ne faisait pas déjà assez chaud!

Bonus video. What you are witnessing here is a camera being held by a two dancing legs and a shaking booty! In the Montréal background: the SAT dome being built and a mysterious Ghostbuster building. The city was SO hot that day and the Club Soda roof was burning up. Sunny, to make us even hotter, gave us an unexpected rendition of his song Fille Pourquoi (Girl Why). We fell in love!

# 8 Ariane and the Kitty Kats - Stuck On You

Le tournage s'est terminé dans un sanglot. Et pourtant, tout avait bien commencé: le soleil mordait comme d'habitude cet été, la coopérative Méduse nous avait prêté son magnifique toit, et Virginie avait accepté que je filme pour une première fois. Mais la jeune formation Ariane and the KittyKats est retournée à Montréal avec une contravention salée: 140$ pour être restés sur un espace réservé aux handicapés. Aïch! Même le nuage carré a changé de forme en cours de route…

This shoot ended with tears. It had all began so well: the sun was as strong as it was all Summer that year, known for it’s heat wave, Méduse haf let us shoot on their magnificent roof and Virginie let Sophie shoot her first video. When we came down from the roof a salted parking ticket (140$!) was awaiting our young musicians, who learn that day you should never park in a handicap spot. Even the square cloud had changed shape…

#7 Camaromance - The Parade

Camaromance ne voulait rien révéler sur la chanson titre de son dernier album, The Parade. «Je ne peux pas dire de qui il est question, c'est quelqu'un de connu et il ne serait vraiment pas content!». Pour cette première vidéo sur le toit du Club Soda au coin Saint-Laurent et Sainte-Catherine: gris buildings, le Mont-Royal en featuring, un dimanche brûlant, autobus bruyant... et un ange nommé Martine Groulx.

#6 Sunny Duval - Peur pour mon coeur, sirène

Sunny Duval a peur? Guitariste émérite, membre du groupe Les Breastfeeders, chanteur de pomme... jamais on n'aurait cru qu'il avait peur des hauteurs. Sur le toit du Club Soda à Montréal, Sunny nous a spontanément charmées, avec 2 chansons. Voici la première, «Peur pour mon coeur, sirène», qu'on retrouve sur son tout nouvel album: Sein Noir, Sein Blanc.

Sunny Duval, scared? Talented guitar player, member of Les Brestfeaders, we never would have thought he would be afraid of hights. On the roof of the Club Soda in Montréal, Sunny completely charmed us with two awesome songs. This was the first, “Peur pour mon coeur sirène”, of his album Sein Noir, Sein Blanc.

#5 Charlie Foxtrot - Le monde est beige

MALAISE à 1min50!!! Guillaume Guité fête ses 30 ans aujourd'hui et il a baptisé son cadeau d'anniversaire au tournage - une guitare acoustique. "Y'a comme une longueur, y'a comme un malaise, esti que le monde est beige!", scandent Charlie Foxtrot, sur le toit du stationnement du cinéma Charest. Le malaise, c'est le pivot de cette chanson inédite du band formé d'ex-membres de MAP, groupe culte de la scène punk-rock de Québec.

Guillaume Guité was celebrating his 30th birthday that day and baptized his birthday gift for the shoot: an acoustic guitare. The song talks about being uncomfortable in a situation and we have to say we all felt it around 1 minute 50 (oh yeah!). "The world is beige" they song at the top of their lungs on the roof of the Cinema Charest parking. It was great so share such an uncomfortable moment with ex-members of cult punk-rock Québec city band MAP.

#4 Filon d'Art - Baluchon Sonore

La chienne borgne Leela tire son nom de la série Futurama. Quant à Filon d'art, ils tirent des taffes et doivent leur nom à Philou, entremetteur émérite. Les MC Zercos et Louf*ck, avec DjUknow, nous offrent Baluchon Sonore sur le toit de Mériem, notre amie commune, sur la rue Saint-Vallier Est. La chanson parle de comment la musique peut nous faire voyager tout en restant dans la ville.

The uni eyed dog Leela is an hommage to Futurama. The MCs Zercos and Louf*ck, along with DJ Uknow sang us made us travel in the city with their words and music, while on our friend Meriem’ s roof on Saint-Vallier Street, Québec city.
